Create a bedtime routine. Choose a time that’s an hour or two before you actually go to bed when you start winding down from the day and doing calmer and less physically active things. You can signify the start of this routine with something like a hot bath or meditation.
Avoid doing anything that’s going to rev you up: let the last couple of hours before you try to go to sleep be ones where you’re calmed down and doing soothing things rather than vigorous exercise, arguments, heated debates, violent video games or thriller and action movies. These things get your blood racing little bit faster and raise your blood pressure and can make it more difficult for you to fall asleep.
Spend the last couple of hours before you go to bed trying very hard not to think about anything stressful. This is probably one of the hardest tips to actually follow through with. You’ve got bills to pay, cookies to bake for school, a presentation at work and other things to think about. Try to get all your worrying over with earlier in the day. Avoid doing anything stressful as well as thinking about it in the last couple hours before you go to bed.
Anything that signifies stress in your room like desk covered in bills that need to be paid or work you brought home that’s waiting on your nightstand should be moved to another room so that it’s not in your subconscious as you try to go to sleep.
