UNDERSTANDING THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF PSORIASIS

Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune disease that attacks the skin. It occurs when the immune system sends out faulty signals that speed up the growth cycle of the skin cells or flaking. Though it may seem so but psoriasis is not contagious. This disorder is a recurring condition that varies in severity minor localized patches to complete body coverage. Psoriasis can also cause inflammation of the joints known as psoriasis arthritis. Krill oil has been found to help with issues with all types of arthritis (also one of the many fish oil benefits) but there are better and improved medicine that was develop to enhance and mimic the effectiveness of krill oil supplements.

Psoriasis has been divided into five types: plaque, guttate, inverse, pustular and erythrodermic. Plaque psoriasis is the most common form. It can be determined by the appearance of red and white colors of scaly patches on the topmost layer of the skin or epidermis. It frequently occurs on the skin of the elbows and knees but it can affect any area of the skin including the scalp, palms of the hands and soles of the feet as well as the genital skin.

Guttate psoriasis shows numerous small teardrop-shaped lesions that scaly and either reddish or pinkish. It commonly occurs in larger parts of the body like the trunk or legs but it may also appear on the scalp.

Inverse psoriasis naturally occurs on the skin folds or those parts of the body where there is skin-to-skin contact like around the genitals, particularly between the thighs and groin, the armpits and under the breast. It is worsened by friction and sweat.

Pustular psoriasis displays raised bumps that are filled with non-infectious pus. The skin surrounding these bumps is red and soft. The hands and feet are where it commonly appears.

Erythrodermic psoriasis is a quite severe case of psoriasis. It involves a widespread inflammation and exfoliation of the skin over most of the body surface. There may be itching, swelling and pain. This form of psoriasis can be fatal as the extreme inflammation can interrupt the body’s natural ability to regulate temperature.

Up until now, science can’t quite determine the cause of psoriasis but it is believed to be a genetic component. There are no known cures for psoriasis as well but there are available treatments. The most common is phototherapy along with oral medication of an FDA approved drug called Soriatane. There are side effects the come with this drug but the effects are quite beneficial. Please be sure to carefully study the side effects of Soriatane, often these drugs can do more harm that good.
